Enjoying the Favorites at the N.C. State Fair
The first weekend of the N.C. State Fair brought out the crowds, with hundreds of thousands of people turning out to enjoy the favorite sights, smells, sounds and of course, tastes. A sample of the afternoon fun on Sunday:

- A man demonstrates the practice of blacksmithing at one of the fair exhibits.

- N.C. State’s Howling Cow ice cream was a big hit Sunday.

- A fairgoer munches on the always messy, but always classic funnel cake.

- Fans cheer loudly for the pig races. The winning pig gets to nosh on a handful of cheese puffs.

- A little boy laughs as he plays inside the Happy Hampster, in which children play inside a bubble floating on the water.

- Fairgoers enjoy a ride on the swings.

- Crowds pack one of the main intersections at the fair.

- Attendees grab a bundle of corn on the cob.
