City of Raleigh & their Utility Dept have created their own problem. Corrective action should have been over the past 20 years and not wait until 2012 to fix the proble. Also
they have extended water and sewer lines through-out several counties selling their
senistrative feesrvices at already very high rates. The much larger problem is WATER. Where will Raleigh
get the water required to service all the old and new customers. Falls Lake in down over
1 foot and if we do not get sufficient rain in the next several months this matter will be a major concern. No Water = No Money. We are already paying Administrative fees
Water= $8.64 + Sewer= $8.34 & Watershed Protection fees . Over $20.00 mo., in fee's
Raleigh is charging almost as much as we pay for Electric Power and Heating fuel.. Poor
management.

We are already paying more for WATER & SEWER Admi

Comment on Oak City Voices: John Tedesco Talks About His Run for State Superintendent by JeffS

I think John is fooling himself if he believes that the PERCEPTION of choice is going to do anything but enrage the public. It raises expectations and encourages parents to visit more schools in their area. This will let them know precisely what has been done to them when their child is assigned to one of the "bad schools". I can't believe he's still going on about year-round schools. Last I checked, there were zero people who wanted in a traditional school that weren't approved, and thousands who wanted in a YR school and weren't approved - yet the board still moved forward with reducing YR seats. How can you claim to be working for the people when you ignore their requests, ignore the feedback you solicit, and increase costs (by reducing seats) in the process?

I am not surprised to see the money behind Tedesco trying to shift him into another position. If they don't, their "investment" will be lost when he loses the next local election.

I am at a loss to explain how someone could vote for John for state superintendent when the majority of his money comes from groups that want to dismantle the public school system. Then again, most people don't seem to be paying attention. If they were, more people would be calling him on his frequent misrepresentations of the facts, his intentions and reality in general.

More art, more fountains in parks (and downtown Raleigh), more entertainment for children. The only other park NEEDED, is a large WATER PARK. Are you kidding, the capital city without a water park. go in partnership with a campany in the area (SAS, IBM, Cisco, BCBS, First Citizens, etc). Come on Raleigh, get it together.

Overall, this sounds like it should be a good thing. But am I the only one who's a little uneasy with the part about "the use of dead ends on streets in high-crime neighborhoods, which make it more difficult for criminals to leave the area quickly"? First of all, I realize that the western part of this corridor passes through some areas that are a bit rough by Raleigh standards, but in the grand scheme of things, they're not really all that "high-crime," are they? And is whatever crime reduction could be effected by dead-ending a few of the streets really worth sacrificing the open, free-flowing feel of the grid pattern, which exists so few places in Raleigh at all, and create a whole bunch of new cul-de-sacs and streets to nowhere? I wouldn't think so, but I haven't studied it.

Dr. Myers is the man that will change the future of emergency medical services. The citizens of Wake County have no idea how good they have it, especially compared with nation-wide standards. We (in a certain center that cannot be named) appreciate the hard work he and his staff do and look forward to the application of the new phases, pending the grant approval.

Discussions of public business via e-mails by a board majority could be viewed as being in violation of the NC Public Meetings Law.
